Beginning American Sign Language (Ages 13–Adult)

Enrichment for Adults and Families / All Summer Programs / Languages -
Summer 2026

Whether you know a Deaf individual or have simply been curious about this beautiful visual language, this is the course for you! We will start with the very basics—the “ABCs of ASL”—and cover introductions and common vocabulary. This course will include hands-on practice activities, games, and possible hearing-impaired guests. We will al-so connect you with places in the community where you can use your newfound skills.

A $20 cash textbook fee will be collected by the instructor at the first class.

Diana Emerson

Instructors are hired by Diana Emerson. Diana has worked in deafness for over 37 years and is at The Center for Individuals with Physical Challenges in the Deaf / Hard of Hearing Services area. She is also a nationally certified sign language interpreter and a former teacher. She will ensure that your instructor is a fluent signer, either deaf or hearing, who will encourage students to learn, wherever they are.
